This Thing Has Literally gone through a Fire!
"I’ve always trusted Bushnell for dependable gear, but I never expected to see just how tough their rangefinders really are. My Bushnell was inside my home during a house fire, and when I recovered what was left of my belongings later that same evening, I honestly didn’t expect anything to be usable. To my surprise, even after being burned, scorched, and covered in soot, the rangefinder still powered on and ranged accurately, In a moment when I had lost literally everything all my clothes my guns and my pets, yet seeing that little device still functioning meant more than I can explain. Bushnell builds equipment that can survive conditions no one ever plans for. When I’m able to replace my gear, Bushnell will be the first brand I go back to. A product that can make it through a fire deserves all the credit in the world."

there is a bug in the ballistic chip
"the range finder itselv works pretty good the measurements are stable, but the ballistic calculation has a bug: first measurement/sychronisation is exact. Normally you would assume, that after standby you would get the same results, but failed, the second measurement delivers a too high value, no mater if the app is on or off. I clamed that, got a new device sealed out of the box, same problem, so I think it is a construction issue, which means that the main function why I bought the R5 2000 does not work right! I tried to contact bushnell US, lets see what comes out of that, because when I read the reviews here, this problem is already there for at least a year!!!"

Excellent ranging capabilities, ballistics included
"I’d purchased this unit to replace a very simple Nikon rangefinder and the feature set on this unit was night and day — the Bushnell R5 has constant scan mode, selectable reticle, Applied Ballistics Light, and can even compensate ballistics for archery distances. Not only that, it’s accurate: I’ve compared it to my Vectronix Terrapin X readings and they are 1:1 for known distances. This unit to me is the best of the mini format laser range finders. I keep this in my bino pack so it is always with me on hunts or on the range."

Fast & Accurate. . . Kinda Works…Room for Improvement
"Picked this up with high hopes it would work somewhat similar to another ballistic calculating rangefinder that I own. Out of the box, plan on spending the extra $50 to upgrade your Applied Ballistics account. The data appears black in the optic so it is not red or another color that may be easier to read depending on lighting and background. I struggled with some connectivity issues and struggled keeping a consistent dope reading. When the data synced properly it was all good. The issue I experienced is the rangefinder seemed to revert back to sample data which can be close but it didn’t always match the rifle and cartridge I had entered. I am not sure if there is a way to lock the data in the rangefinder or if you always have to have your rangefinder sync with the phone. That makes me second guess what I am doing in the field and constantly have to verify if the data shown in the device matches the dope chart in the app. The unit works fast and when synced properly provides critical data for making every shot count. There is a lot to like with this device. I am still getting comfortable with it but as of right now I can’t rely on it in the field just yet until I figure out how to get the data to match every time I use it."

R5 2000 Rangfinder
"I have had several Bushnell rangefinders. The last one is a Nitro 1700 which I still have and this R5 is my latest which is the upgrade to the Nitro 1700. both have ballistic abilities that is why I purchased them both. . Very happy with both units!!"

Not as good as on paper
"Practicing PRS I have got the R5 because it has Bluetooh and applied ballistics. On that part I am very disappointed. The Bushnell app (IOS and android, I tried both) doesn't sync properly. It does about 1 out of 10 times with the proper values. So the ballistics are wrong most of the time. Furthermore the value on the screen are with two digits. So if you need for example 110 clicks the screen will indicate ""10"" instead of ""110"". As a simple rangefinder it works well and seems to be accurate."

Solid, but app needs work
"The R5 2000 is a nice piece of it. I upgraded from the 1700 Prime. It's 4x faster, but it does have 2x longer boot up time due to how having AB onboard. The mobile app, however, needs a ton of work: it's unstable, hangs, crashes, and you can't leave your sync info on it or it stops working altogether. If they can make the app rock solid so I can better sync profiles, and I can also allow for multiple R5s to have profiles saved, then it'd be great (just like how the Kestrel app works). But since the app is mandatory to load profiles via Bluetooth to the R5, the app is vital to maximizing the LRF. This needs to be fixed, which will make the LRF fantastic and will get it's last star."

Typical Bushnell
"These are typical of how Bushnell handles all of their warranty work with their lifetime warranties. They always tell you that they no longer make the type of product you sent in, but they make a better one that's more money that they will give you credit of what you paid for the one you sent in against it and let you have it after you pay the difference. This is how they get their cost of producing the new replacement back."
