HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR OPTICS DURING THE OFF-SEASON

February 13, 2023

Bushnell optics are made to last. But that doesn’t mean they don’t require some measure of care to keep them in tip-top shape for years to come. With hunting seasons winding down, now is the time to put that ounce of prevention into play. Here’s a quick and easy recipe for off-season optics care that will keep your riflescopes, binoculars and spotting scopes in great condition and ready for your next adventure.

WIPE IT DOWN

The first step is an easy one. Simply wipe down your optics with a clean, soft cloth. The goal here is to remove any moisture, oils, dirt or debris that may have accumulated over the course of the hunting season.

No solvents or cleaners are needed. A clean, dry cloth should do the trick in most situations. In the event your optic is carrying some mud or dirt, clean water is all that’s needed to clean it off.

Bushnell binoculars feature IPX7 waterproof construction so there’s no need to worry about water penetrating the interior of the optic. Simply use a damp cloth to clean away the dirt.

CLEAN THE LENSES

Using a microfiber cloth, such as the SPUDZ Black cleaning cloth, wipe away any fingerprints or oils on the lenses of your optics. Bushnell features an exclusive EXO barrier on its lenses that molecularly bonds to the glass and prevents scratches while repelling dirt, dust, oils and water. A few gentle passes with the SPUDZ cloth will have your glass looking clear and bright.

LOOK IT OVER

You’ve hunted hard all season and your equipment can certainly take some abuse as a result. Now is the time to inspect your binoculars, spotting scopes and riflescopes. Ensure that all mounting bases on rifle scopes are tight and secure.

Affix lens caps on binoculars and spotting scopes and lens covers on rifle scopes to help protect the glass during offseason storage.

Bushnell optics feature an ironclad lifetime warranty and now is the time to address any issues to provide ample time before the next hunting season.

STORE IT SAFELY

Keep your optics in a secure, dry location. Bushnell’s optic are tough but that’s not reason to throw all common sense caution to the wind. Your optics are precision instruments and should be treated as such. Padded cases provide excellent storage protection and peace of mind while keeping your optics at the ready for the next season.
